After a meteor shower hits the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, Clark is found and adopted by farmers Martha and Jonathan Kent. The idea of the producers was to combine modernity of the 21st century with ancient events in the hero’s story.
Beginning with season five, the storyline features Superman as an adult working at the Daily Planet in Metropolis. The production was a success, with the pilot seen by around 8.4 million viewers.
Throughout the ten seasons, only actors Tom Welling and Allison Mack, who had been with the series since its inception, remained in the cast through the end. In 2019, Welling and Erica Durance reprized their roles in the crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths“.
He featured “Smallville” as one of the Arrowverse’s parallel countries and explained what would have happened to Clark and Lois after the events of the 2001 production. In the scene, Lex Luthor is surprised to learn that Superman has given up his powers to a family alongside Lois who are living a normal life on the Kent Ranch.
The villain even asks Clark why he did that by being shown a toy in the scene, suggesting he can finally start a family alongside his lover and put aside all his duties as a hero.
