Argentina's largest trade union federation, the General Confederation of Trade Unions (CGT), announced a 12hour general strike on January 24th.
There will also be a demonstration in front of the National Congress in Buenos Aires.
The announcement of the mobilization was made this Thursday, December 27th.
The strike is a response to the economic reform decree presented on December 20 by the government of libertarian Javier Milei (photo).
“It is a response to an illegal Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU). There is no need or urgency to come out with so many articles reversing the matrix of the country. This violates the individual and collective rights of workers and also the solidarity health system,” explained the Secretary General of the CGT, Héctor Daer.
“When we mobilized yesterday, a general law appeared that attacks pensioners. They want the pension formula to disappear when inflation rises. So a lot of other things: privatizations, lack of consideration for the assets of Argentines,” he added.
The strike was unanimously approved by the CGT Central Committee, which includes regional unions from across the country.
Further details of the protest will be determined on January 10th.
