The European Union has added Pornhub, Stripchat and Xvideos to the list of major online platforms subject to increased scrutiny.
Under the Digital Services Act, these sites are subject to stricter rules, as are Sites X, TikTok, Google and Facebook.
The three adult content websites have more than 45 million users in the European Union and can therefore be monitored under the Digital Services Act.
The new rules come into force in April and include several measures. Accordingly, companies must:
- Providing userfriendly mechanisms to allow users or organizations to report illegal content;
- Providing users with explanations when content is restricted or removed;
- Set up an internal complaint handling system so users can appeal content moderation decisions.
- Notify law enforcement authorities immediately if they become aware of any information that gives rise to suspicion that a crime that poses a threat to the life or safety of any person is occurring, is occurring or is likely to be committed, including in the case of child sexual abuse;
- redesigning its systems to ensure a high level of privacy and security for minors;
- Make sure your interfaces are not designed to deceive or manipulate users.
- Stop showing targeted advertising that is based on sensitive data profiles (such as ethnic origin, political opinion or sexual orientation) or targeted to minors;
- You must have clear terms and conditions and act diligently, objectively and proportionately when applying them.
- Publish transparency reports on your content moderation processes once a year.
