In his first week in office, Argentine President Javier Milei (photo) took foreign policy positions that were opposite to those of President Lula.

Milei received the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, at his inauguration in Buenos Aires. This Friday the 15th, it was announced that he is expected to donate two Mi17E helicopters to Ukraine. The devices were used on missions in Antarctica, but were parked in the hangar because a maintenance contract with Russia was canceled due to sanctions. However, Ukraine has the capacity to get them back on the air.

The stance contrasts with that of Lula, who said Zelensky wanted war and was trying to blame NATO for the conflict.

Milei also promised to move the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem, a gesture that greatly pleased the Israeli government. Since the founding of this country, the capital has been in Jerusalem, but several countries preferred to keep their embassies in Tel Aviv to pressure the Israelis to negotiate with the Palestinians. The Argentine president also said he would travel to Israel and appointed a rabbi, Shimon Axel Wahnish, to head the Argentine embassy in the country. Wahnish was the one who introduced Milei to the study of the Torah, the Jewish Bible.
