Gary Sinise is receiving support from fellow stars following the death of his son McCanna Anthony Sinise, who died of cancer at the age of 33.

The actor made the news public on Tuesday with a post on his Gary Sinise Foundation website, noting that Mac passed away on January 5th and was buried on January 23rd.

“Like any family who experiences such a loss, we are heartbroken and have made it through as best we could,” the 68-year-old wrote alongside a photo of Mac with the caption: “In Honor & Memory McCanna Anthony 'Mac' Sinise.” , 1990.” -2024.”

“As a parent, it is so difficult to lose a child. My condolences go out to everyone who has suffered a similar loss and to everyone who has lost a loved one,” he continued.

“We’ve all experienced it in one way or another.”

Several Hollywood stars posted messages of support for the “Forrest Gump” star and his family on Instagram.

“We’re so sorry, Gary. You and your family are deeply loved by so many people,” Angie Harmon wrote. “We are all praying for you. I love you so much.”

Alyssa Milano, meanwhile, posted: “I’m so sorry Gary. I pray for your family. And I send you love and strength.”

Actor Robert Patrick wrote: “Gary, my deepest condolences, sending love and prayers,” while singer Katharine McPhee said: “Oh Gary. I am so sorry.”

In his message on Tuesday, Gary – who is also father to daughters Sophia and Ella – wrote that Mac was diagnosed with “a very rare cancer” called chordoma in 2018, just months after his wife Moira Harris was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer (She is now in remission).

He added that Mac's cancer eventually spread and “disabled him more and more as time went on.”

Singer Alec Benjamin, who knew Mac in college, also reached out to his family on Instagram.

“So sorry!!!” he wrote. “I went to [University of Southern California] with Mac. He was such a nice guy and so talented!”

Actress Kelly Carlson added that Gary “has come through this whole thing so strong and managed to take care of others too.”

“Dan and I extend our deepest condolences and love,” she said of her husband Dan Stanchfield. “Gary, you are a remarkable man. Anyone who knows him or has just met him knows what I mean. Unique.”

Gary shared on Tuesday that Mac's battle had lasted more than five years.

“As time went on it became more and more demanding,” he wrote. “While our hearts hurt to miss him, we are comforted to know that Mac is no longer struggling and are inspired and moved by how he has made it through. He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never stopped trying.”
