HAVANA, April 29 (RHC) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío reiterated this Friday that if the United States wants a meeting to discuss the key issues in the region, the Summit of the Americas must be inclusive based on information from the Prensa Latina agency in Washington.

In an interview with US newspaper The Hill, the assistant secretary of state pointed out that as the host of the meeting scheduled for June in Los Angeles, the US government feels privileged to invite only those it wants, while still allowing America’s to name peaks.

“In reality, the White House intends to hold a summit of friends who are able to listen to the words of the United States, accept the agenda of the United States, and reiterate what the United States is saying,” Fernández de Cossío added .

The diplomat urged Washington not to be afraid of dialogue, even when the topic seems controversial or when others have different ideas or visions than he does.

He stressed that if the summit becomes a photo show so that President Joseph Biden’s administration can discuss an agenda based on its interests and domestic needs, then the event will be a failure, a sterile exercise.

He even assumed that the Florida Democrats would lose in the next election, no matter what.

“You shouldn’t justify your political failures in the US southern state with Cuba, that’s not why the Democrats are failing, even if they are pursuing a hostile strategy towards Havana,” said the deputy secretary of state.

He also commented that the current polarization in US society and politics affects foreign policy in general and therefore affects relations with Cuba. (Source: PL)
