Cuba commemorates the legacy of Hugo Chavez

Havana.- On the 68th anniversary of the birth of Venezuelan leader Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, an ardent friend of Cuba, Cuban authorities and organizations are commemorating his legacy.

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Party’s Central Committee and President of the Republic, celebrated in Twitter Chavez’s exemplary legacy of solidarity.

#Cuba celebrates today, with Sister #Venezuela and with all of Our America, the 68th birthday of beloved Hugo Rafael. Long live #ChávezForever’s exemplary legacy of solidarity, wrote the President.

Referring to the Venezuelan leader, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said on the same social network that he is Cuba’s and Fidel’s best friend.

Our tribute to Hugo Chávez, who would be 68 years old today. #Cuba and #Fidel’s best friend, Bolivian leader, faithful follower of Simón Bolívar’s ideas. #ChávezLive, he was referring to.

Politburo member and organizing secretary of the party’s central committee, Roberto Morales Ojeda, recalled the words of the historic leader of the revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz: “A Venezuelan soldier, in whose head Bolívar’s ideas germinated enough to observe his thinking of humble origins, school, military academy, reading, the reality of his country and the presence of Yankee rule”.

The Union of Young Communists (UJC) called for a tweet in honor of Chávez to take place between 9am and 12pm using the hashtags #ChavezVive and #CubaPorLaPaz.

Likewise, today the Casa del Alba Cultural and the Venezuelan Embassy in Havana coordinated an evening of concerts dedicated to the Bolivarian leader, the agency reports Latin Press.

Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías was born on July 28, 1954 in Sabaneta in the Venezuelan state of Barinas.

He won Venezuela’s presidency in December 1998 and took up his first magistrate’s office in February 1999, pushing through a constitutional amendment granting freedoms and rights previously denied to the majority of the population.

Chávez died of cancer on March 5, 2013 at the Doctor Carlos Arvelo Military Hospital in Caracas.
