Cuba offers condolences to China over Guangxi plane crash

Havana, 21 March (EFE) . The Cuban government expressed its “condolences” to China on Monday following the crash of a passenger plane in Guangxi (in the south of the country) in which 132 people were traveling.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez tweeted “the deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims” of the incident.

“Our solidarity with the brotherly people and government of the People’s Republic of China for the unfortunate loss of life caused by the tragic plane crash in the south of this nation,” he wrote on the social network.

The incident occurred after 2:00 p.m. local time (6:00 GMT) when the China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 was flying over a mountainous area in Guangxi province on route MU 5735 between Kunming and Guangzhou.

According to local media reports, the device lost contact with the ground and quickly descended, without further details being released for the time being. It is not known whether there are any survivors.

According to flight tracking portal FlightRadar24, at 14:19 local time (06:19 GMT) the plane was flying at an altitude of 29,100 feet (8,870 meters) when it took off about 55 kilometers west of the city of Wuzhou and began to descend abruptly.

The flight’s final contact point was about 25 kilometers southwest of Wuzhou at an altitude of 3,225 feet (989 meters) at 14:22 local time (06:22 GMT), according to the aforementioned portal. means that the apparatus descended almost 8,000 meters in just three minutes.

Rescue teams were at the scene, the Chinese state chain added, after which the accident caused a forest fire in Teng County, Wuzhou city.
