Cuba Reaffirms Commitment to Regular, Orderly, and Safe Migration

Havana, May 19 (ACN) Elio Rodríguez PerdomoVice Minister of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the Cuban government’s commitment to the goals of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migrationright

Speaking at the First Review Forum on International Migration, held in New York and published on the Cubaminrex website, the diplomat denounced that the strengthening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States Challenges of this country to fulfill the covenant.

He stressed that this arbitrary measure imposed on the nation of the West Indies discourages Cubans, given the deprivation and hardship it causes, and encourages irregular emigration.


Rodríguez Perdomo assured that even in the midst of these circumstances, the government will remain committed to regular, orderly and safe migration.

The Cuban representative also stressed that, with 281 million international migrants in the world, it is crucial to address the structural causes of this phenomenon, which stems from poverty, inequality and inequality in which a large part of the world’s population lives.

He pointed out that contradictions and limitations still prevail in current international politics, that in many developed countries the rejection of migrants persists, even politicians and some media brand them as a threat to the security and sovereignty of states.

In conclusion, he stressed the need for cooperation between States as a fundamental basis for the formulation and implementation of migration policies based on the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law.
