Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel assured this Saturday at the XXVIII. Ibero-American Summit that they can always count on their country in efforts to consolidate a more just, united and sustainable world.
In the high-level session of this meeting, which is being held in the Dominican Republic, he announced that the Greater Antilles will host the XXIV Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors in November this year.
He said his nation is ready to provide the Ibero-American community with a training program and the development of specialized technical capacity for stewardship and comprehensive water management with postgraduate courses, masters degrees and doctorates at university centers on the island.
Regarding Cuba’s responsibility to chair the Group of 77 + China, he stated that it exercises this in the belief that solidarity and cooperation must prevail and that the Ibero-American Conference can contribute by promoting inclusive cooperation and should achieve this common goal.
He also stated that in light of the Empire’s attempts to re-colonize and impose a unique culture and models, the region is uniting under the leadership of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) to honor the commitment to the proclamation of Latin America and The Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
In his speech, Díaz-Canel also condemned the tightening of the US blockade against the Caribbean nation, aimed at sowing discouragement in Cuban families and stalling the island’s economy.
As another sign of latent hatred for this policy, he pointed to the animosity Cuban baseball players and their families suffered in the semifinals of the V World Baseball Classic in Miami.
“It was a shameful spectacle that was only possible through the active instigation and complicity of the political authorities of this city,” said Díaz-Canel.
As an insult to the truth, he called Cuba’s inclusion on the United States’ false list of countries allegedly supporting terrorism, which makes all financial and trade transactions extremely difficult, as well as credit facilities for Cuba. He also thanked the valuable accompaniment of Ibero-America in the declarations of opposition to the blockade and their demands for the exclusion of Cuba from the US arbitrary list.

The Cuban leader also reiterated his solidarity with the legitimate governments of Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia, which face constant attempts at destabilization.
He supported Argentina’s legitimate claim to sovereignty over its territories and reaffirmed the historic commitment to self-determination and independence among the people of Puerto Rico.
It also ratified the commitment to the peace process in Colombia; and called upon to support the Haitian people, always respecting their self-determination and sovereignty.
He commended the Dominican Republic for the remarkable results achieved in these two years of leadership of the Iberoamerican community and wished Ecuador success in its new roles as pro tempore Secretariat.
