United Nations, June 20 (RHC) The Cuban government, in the United Nations Organization -UN- has rejected the long process of colonization to which the United States submits from Puerto Rico and has declared itself in favor of the independence of this Latin American and Caribbean territory.
This Monday, the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization unanimously passed a new resolution on Puerto Rico, reiterating that it is not just an internal matter of the Washington government, as it affects the entire international community.
This was highlighted by Cuban Ambassador to the United Nations Pedro Luis Pedroso when presenting the document, which was co-sponsored by the Missions of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Syria and Russia.
The Cuban diplomat recalled that this year 2022 marks 50 years since the adoption of the first resolution on Puerto Rico’s colonial question.
Such documents reaffirm its status as a Latin American and Caribbean nation with its own distinctive national identity, he pointed out in his speech.
“Cuba has an unequivocal responsibility for the self-determination and independence of the fraternal people of Puerto Rico, based on unbreakable friendship and relationship with deep historical roots and a common struggle for more than a century for independence and sovereignty,” asserted Pedrosa.
Year after year, the UN Special Committee on Decolonization has spoken out in favor of Puerto Rico’s independence and against the colonization process it is being subjected to by the United States. (font: Latin Press).
