Havana, October 20th (RHC) Cuban Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya attended the meeting of the Scientific Authorities of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in Argentina the day before.

He reported via his Twitter account that during his speech at the event, he presented an update on policies and initiatives to renew engagement and the role of scientific solidarity.

“I spoke at the meeting of Ministers, Ministers and High Authorities for Science, Technology and Innovation of #CELAC. I explained SGGCTI, Improving, Reorganizing, Updating and Promoting Policies and Initiatives to Renew the Engagement and Role of Scientific Solidarity.”

Pérez Montoya, head of the Caribbean delegation, explained that the island’s achievements have been achieved despite the conditions imposed by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the island by the United States, which undermines the development of science and well-being of the island prevents people.

In another tweet, Pedro Pablo Prada, Cuban ambassador to the South American nation, wrote that the report on the state of science, technology and innovation in the region, where Cuba leads in investment processes and results, was presented at the matter, including the development of vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the work program, the Cuban official held a meeting with Daniel Filmus and Juan Cabandié, Argentina’s Ministers of Science, Technology and Innovation and Environment and Sustainable Development, respectively.

During the exchange, both parties expressed interest in expanding cooperation and exchanges between the ministries of the two countries.
At the event, the representatives of the largest of the Antilles also attended the inauguration of Argentina’s new National Archive of Genetic Data, summarizing more than 35 years of studies and scientific advances. (Source: ACN)
