Cuba takes part in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Mathematical Olympiad

The event will be attended by 46 active students under the age of 16 from Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

The Cubans are competing from the headquarters of the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Educational Technology in Havana, located in the municipality of Playa.

Heriberto Donet Carrillo, a professor at the Máximo Gómez Báez Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE) in Camagüey, told the Havana government portal that the students were all tenth graders.

The national team coach, also, indicated that on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th the participants sat a four and a half hour exam that included exercises on geometry, combinatorics, discrete mathematics, natural numbers, counting problems, algebra, number theory and strategies for solution games.

Nelson Tomas Hernández Reyes, Head of Delegation and Professor at the Mathematics Studies Center for Technical Careers; Evidio Quintana Fernández, head coach of the capital; Ernesto Alejandro López Cadalso, professor in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Havana (UH), and Darío Palmero Ledón, first-year student of mathematics at this Center for Advanced Studies, tutor and winner of a silver medal at The OMCC 2018 completes the list of Cuban Coaches in charge of preparing the Antilles delegation.

Palmero Ledón announced that the awards ceremony for the academic event will take place this Friday from 7 p.m. local time.
