Buenos Aires, 24 January (EFE).- The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, said Tuesday that it was “urgent” to strengthen the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), whose 7th Summit in Buenos Aires Aires began.
In a message published on his official account on the social network Twitter, Díaz-Canel considered that “strengthening this diverse and inclusive mechanism is an urgent need and a shared duty to achieve the unity of #OurAmerica”. .
“The indispensable Latin American and Caribbean integration unites us and convenes the VII #CELAC Summit in Argentina,” he added in the publication.
The VII Celac Summit will take place this Tuesday in Buenos Aires in the presence of representatives of the 33 member countries, including Brazil, which rejoined the mechanism after leaving in 2020 under Jair Bolsonaro’s government.
The opening at around 10:30 am (13:30 GMT) was made by Argentine President Alberto Fernández, host of the meeting as the country holding the pro tempore presidency of the regional forum. For his part, Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero read the situation report to the President.
The dialogue between the heads of state and government takes place behind closed doors, interrupted only by lunches and bilateral meetings.
