Cuban American elected to the top position of Police Superintendent in Denver, USA.

The Cuban American Lisabeth Perez Castle was selected as an independent supervisor at the main police control agency in Denver, Colorado.

“I am honored to have been selected as the next police officer and thank the Citizen Oversight Board and community for their trust. I am committed to working tirelessly to promote fairness, transparency and accountability in policing and look forward to working with law enforcement and the law enforcement community to continue to strengthen oversight in Denver,” he said in a statement, which was repeated by the local media.

Pérez Castle was born in the Bronx, New York to Cuban parents and trained as a lawyer. In 2000 he opened his own private defense office in Denver and worked in the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office for 12 years.

“Castle’s experience, tenacity and ability to build strong relationships were some of the reasons she was selected,” Daniel Van Schooten, Administrator of the Citizens’ Oversight Board, wrote in a press release.

Van Schooten added that Pérez Castle has extensive legal practice and law firm management experience and has a strong reputation in the community for building trust and respect.

The Cuban-American attorney will take up the post in January 2023. The post has been vacant for nearly two years after Denver’s last independent supervisor, Nick Mitchell, resigned after releasing a damning report on the Denver Police Department’s handling of protests over the death of George Floyd.

Lisabeth Pérez Castle served as a supervisor at the Denver Drug Court. During this time he established a child care center for the Denver courts so that children who needed to go to court with their parents could have a safe and fun place.

That year, she received the Chris Miranda Hispanic Lawyer of the Year Award from the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association for her distinguished career as a criminal defense attorney.

He was also a spokesman for the American Bar Association to educate foreign attorneys and judges about the domestic justice system.

She is a mother of four and runs marathons in her free time.
