Havana, June 18 (RHC) The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today congratulated parents on their day for being able to take care of and nurture the angels who are their children , he said on Twitter.

In the Caribbean country, this date is observed every third Sunday of June to reciprocate children’s love and devotion to their parents.

The President of the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, also congratulated the Cuban parents and especially those who serve as deputies and delegates of the legislature.

He also recalled that Cuba’s national hero, José Martí, once said: “The qualities of parents remain in the spirit of their children.”

Likewise, Secretary of State Bruno Rodríguez gave a special welcome to the parents who work at the State Department, who bravely defend revolutionary foreign policy and whose example shortens distances and inspires, he said.

The first commemoration of the anniversary in the Caribbean country took place on June 19, 1938, at the initiative of the writer and artist Dulce María Borrero, who advocated a generalization of the homage.

The celebration’s social expression goes beyond family reunions and gifts, although much remains to be done to transform the practice of fatherhood in the Caribbean country, experts say.

An article on the Cubadebate website points out that the first urgent steps are to create more classrooms for parents and to break down any prejudices that still prevail in hospitals, schools and other institutions related to the care and education of children. (Source: Latin Press)
