HAVANA, December 15 (RHC) – Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez this Thursday in New York called on the Group of 77 plus China to multiply solidarity and cooperation against coercion, unilateralism and selfishness.

During his speech at the bloc’s ministerial conference, the chancellor insisted that the current development challenges require the group to strengthen the spirit of struggle and unity like never before in order to meet its legitimate demands.

“Let’s raise our voice together,” said Rodríguez, who called for defending and realizing the dreams of prosperity and social justice of the peoples of these countries.

“Let’s not just be spectators of our destiny, humanity needs us to act, future generations will appreciate it,” Rodríguez said in his speech.

He also alluded to the need to support national efforts to comply with the 2030 Agenda and the Addis Ababa Agenda for Action with measures in the area of market access and funding on fair and preferential terms.

He also stressed the need to build capacity and transfer technology alongside North-South cooperation.

“While millions of dollars are allocated to finance wars and arms races, the South bears the burden of poverty, underdevelopment, debt and centuries of colonial exploitation and structural deformation,” recalled the head of Cuban diplomacy.

He added that the G77 has a fundamental role to play in the context of a multidimensional systemic health, energy, food and environmental crisis that is the result of an unfair international economic order that is disproportionately affecting countries in the South.

The minister said that it is strategic and crucial as a negotiation and consultation forum for developing countries, adding that this is a pillar the Caribbean nation will uphold during its pro-tempore presidency in 2023.

He thanked the members of the bloc for their support and confidence in the island, which will take over the coordination of the group next January, after the end of its mandate, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Cuban Foreign Minister will attend the Ministerial Conference on December 15-16 in New York, a meeting whose central theme is achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing current challenges and building resilience to future crises.

Other topics are discussed at a round table, e.g. B. mobilizing funds to achieve the SDGs; international climate protection measures; international trade, development and investment to achieve the SDGs; and expanding access to finance and investment in Africa and countries in special situations.
