Cuban state organs will be accountable to the Parliament

The Cuban authorities will report to the deputies of the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) at the next ordinary session of the legislature, it was agreed here today.

The Cuban parliamentarians approved the proposal on the second day of discussion, which was the IX. Ordinary session in which the accounts of the Council of State, the Comptroller General of the Republic, the Government of the Province of Pinar del Río and the Ministry of Communications.

Regular reporting to Parliament is one of the provisions of the Cuban Constitution adopted in 2019, which also regulates the auditing of state institutions and local organs of popular power.

At the session, parliamentarians ratified the State Council’s decrees-laws and agreements, including international treaties with Russia, Turkey, France, Argentina, Senegal, Italy and Guinea-Bissau.

During the phase, this state body approved the appointment of new ambassadors, prosecutors and auditors, as well as other arrangements related to the internal workings of the National Assembly.

The Council of State is elected from among its members by the Cuban Parliament to constitute itself as the body that represents it from session to session, carries out its agreements and performs the other functions attributed to it by the Constitution and the law.
