The Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR) has published a notice on the weekly published folio numbers.
COMAR is responsible for determining refugee status and supplementary protection, as well as providing institutional assistance. This is the message they have been spreading on social media.
“We are adapting the processes for better service. Now the folio numbers are published weekly. Keep track of your number and go to the COMAR Registration Center.”

In other statements published on its official channels, the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance reiterates that it is the institution of the Mexican Government responsible for receiving, analyzing and deciding on applications for recognition of refugee status in Mexico.
In this sense, they indicate that they do not issue immigration documents or transit documents. “The certificate of approval for the COMAR procedure is not a document for free passage through Mexico. You must therefore remain in the state in which you begin your application in order to pursue your case until its resolution.”
REFUGE IN MEXICO: LA COMAR
Who is considered a refugee? The Refugees, Supplementary Protection and Political Asylum Act states that a refugee:
- You fled your country because your life, safety or freedom was threatened by widespread violence, foreign aggression, internal conflict or massive human rights violations.
- She has a well-founded fear of being persecuted because of her race, religion, nationality, gender, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
- You are at risk or could experience harassment, blackmail or violence.
“If your life or safety is in danger upon returning to your country of origin and you wish to remain in Mexico, you can request recognition of refugee status. COMAR will analyze your case and give you a solution,” they inform.
You should know that to submit your application you must go to one of the COMAR offices and that if there is no official presence of the Commission, you can appear at the offices of the National Migration Institute.
