Cubans residing in the United States can easily travel to the Dominican Republic even if they have an expired passport. This has been reported by the authorities of this important tourist destination in the Caribbean.
The measure applies from April 1st. It is taken into account that due to the coronavirus pandemic, many people have not been able to renew their passports, both in their own countries and at consulates abroad.
The document from the Directorate General for Migration (DGM) of the Dominican Republic states that the passport can be expired up to 2 years before the trip. It is not possible to enter the Antilles nation beyond the expiry date of 24 months.
You must also prove that you are a United States resident. In recent months, groups of Cuban migrants have arrived in the Caribbean area in search of ways to reach the northern country. For this reason, the Dominican government is taking additional precautions.
A resort very frequented by Cubans
The Dominican Republic is one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean. In fact, this is one of the main sources of income for the nation.
Among its attractions, Punta Cana stands out as a sun and beach destination frequented by Europeans and North Americans. It is a special place for many Cubans who live in Florida, hence the high demand among the island’s indigenous people.
In Punta Cana, Cuban tourists living in the United States will find a wide variety of hotel options, depending on the interests of each one. The indications of the service are consistent in its excellence and there is no shortage of comparisons with similar ones in Cuba.
In this sense, those who have been able to visit the two tourist destinations speak of the advantages and attractions of spending at least a few days in Punta Cana.
