The government of the Dominican Republic announced today that Cuban citizens who are permanent residents of the United States can enter their country as tourists and without a visa.
“The Directorate General for Migration (DGM) has announced that through Resolution No. 7 it has allowed all citizens of Cuban nationality coming from the United States to enter the Dominican Republic as tourists,” the local press explains today.
The Dominican government’s statement highlights that the regulation will come into effect on April 1 of this year, 2022.
They also make it clear that people with passports no older than 24 months can also travel to the Dominican Republic “as long as they have the document guaranteeing their permanent residence in the United States”.
Regarding the latter, they point out that “this resolution takes into account that the measures taken by the United States to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic have resulted in many people failing to renew their passports in their respective countries and consulates abroad could, which has serious consequences for the development of their everyday life.
The statement also makes an important clarification, clarifying that “Cuban citizens entering the country in transit to other countries require a Dominican visa.”
According to the tourist newspaper Arecoa, the document was addressed to the general coordinators of immigration services at international airports, ports, docks and border crossings.
In it, they make it clear that persons with a visa, residence or citizenship of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, the Netherlands of the European Union or the member territories of the Schengen area also do not need a Dominican visa.
