The market town of Lustenau invited to the Market of Cultures in the church square on Saturday.

Lustenau The sounds of the Scottish bagpipe group in Lustenau could be heard from afar on Saturday morning and hinted that this market was unconventional. Dressed in traditional Scottish uniform, “The First Leiblach Valley Pipes and Drums” created a great atmosphere among the numerous visitors to the annual “Market of Cultures” and amazed the little guests, who watched the bagpipe group in awe. It was a festival of cultures in the truest sense of the word, with those who lingered on the stands, chatted with them and tried the typical delicacies of the country.

A total of 15 different countries were represented with their stands. The stallholders allow visitors to taste their typical dishes. And they did it with joy and without shyness. “We just received some Bolivian delicacies. They taste fantastic,” confirmed visitor Dennis Grabher-Maier from Lustenau. The aim is to eat as many countries as possible to experience the multitude of traditional dishes, he said. We went on to Peru, Brazil, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, France, Italy and also to Lustenau. The bustle of the church square, the musical sounds and the appealing smells transformed the church square into an international arena, where a mutual and appreciative encounter took place. “The market is very popular with visitors. I am very happy that so many went to the center today and tasted the various delicacies in the morning”, said market coordinator Manuela Haller, from Lustenau Marketing.

The market also offered some highlights for children. Pompo the clown made everyone laugh with his bubble bike. Of course, the occasional giant soap bubble was caught and popped by the kids. They could get creative in the craft tent or listen to stories in the mobile library with Peter Ladstätter. During the break, the Bosnian folk dance group “Bosanski Sjaj”, the traditional costume group Lustenau or the bagpipe group performed their dances. But musical interludes from artists around the world have credited the market with their international flair.

Visit of the Ukrainian Ambassador

So it was good that the Ukrainian ambassador from Vienna, Vasyl Khymynets, was in Lustenau for talks that day. Mayor Kurt Fischer spoke to him about possible aid projects. Of course, Fischer showed the distinguished guest from Vienna the festival of cultures on the church square, where the Ukrainian Yuliia Zaiats (35) presented an exhibition of photos about the war. Ambassador Khymynets was pleased with the activities in Lustenau. bvs
