Cult Prince film and album: “Purple Rain” adapted as a musical

Legendary artist Prince's work has not faded while his project Purple Rain is being revived as a musical.

The musical film Purple Rain, originally released in 1984, and the accompanying album of the same name enabled Prince, who died in 2016, to establish himself as a must-have in the world of music.

The feature film tells the story of Kid (Prince), a troubled young musician from Minnesota who tries to escape his personal and family problems by devoting himself to music. We could especially hear songs like “Let's Go Crazy”, “When Doves Cry” and of course “Purple Rain”.

Critics were full of praise for the film's soundtrack, which won awards including the Oscars, the Brit Awards and the Grammy Awards.

According to the New York Times, the musical comedy, inspired by the original 1984 script, will be developed by producer Orin Wolf and directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz. Details about the date and place of the premiere are not yet known.
