The production of the play Salle de nouvelles, postponed during the lockdown, will finally be performed in Montreal in September. Lee Hall’s adaptation (from the film Network) is directed by Marie-Josée Bastien. The latter is also artistic director of Théâtre Stratégie Parking in Quebec, which produces the show together with Trident and Duceppe. At the Jean Duceppe Theater from September 6th to October 7th
Milk run
Acclaimed by critics in both Quebec and Montreal is Run delait, Justin Laramée’s documentary play that examines the psychological strain faced by producers. This show is “harrowing, shocking and disturbing,” wrote Stéphanie Morin last November. The tour continues this fall in Quebec, doing just five performances at the Jean Duceppe Theater.
From November 22nd to 26th at the Jean Duceppe Theater
To become old
Following L’orangeraie, Coup de vieux marks a new and (highly anticipated) collaboration between director Claude Poissant and writer Larry Tremblay. This co-production between Trident and the Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui features six artists from Montreal and Quebec: Sylvie Drapeau, Jacques Girard, Linda Sorgini, Jacques Leblanc, Marie Gignac and Thomas Boudreault-Côté.

Courville
Courville was founded in September 2021 with Robert Lepage at Le Diamant and will officially open the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde season. Quebec artist Olivier Normand takes on the lead role created by Lepage. Surrounded by a dozen puppets, he stands on stage to tell the story of youthful torment. Lepage was inspired by the traditional Japanese art of Bunraku in this show produced by Ex Machina.
At the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde from September 12th to October 7th
Never wipe away tears without gloves
The talented Alexandre Fecteau directs the theatrical adaptation (by Véronique Côté) of Jonas Gardell’s bestseller. “Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves” recalls the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and its consequences for the lives of a group of gay men in Sweden around the young Rasmus, played by Olivier Arteau. A touching portrait of the ravages of this disease at the time.
At the Jean Duceppe Theater from December 6th to 16th
The Riopelle Project
Robert Lepage’s latest creation as part of the 100th anniversary of the birth of painter Jean Paul Riopelle finally arrives in Quebec. As Lepage’s performances evolve over time, it will be interesting to see (or discover) the piece again at Le Diamant to admire the magic and ingenuity of the director who has taken it upon himself to create the To lift the veil over an artist shrouded in an aura of mystery. A co-production by Duceppe and Ex Machina.
In the Diamond, from October 19th to November 19th
Pissing standing up without lifting your skirt
In March 2022, Olivier Arteau brought his creative residency at the Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui full circle with this play with an amusing title, featuring long-time friends of Quebec’s millennial generation. They will gather at an apartment for Ariel’s (Ariel Charest) bachelor party. All delusions are permitted. Resuming in May 2024 at Périscope in Quebec. Text and direction are by Olivier Arteau. Pissing standing up without lifting your skirt is produced by Kata Theater in collaboration with the Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui.
At Périscope from May 7th to 18th, 2024
The awakening of spring
David Paquet’s piece is loosely inspired by the work of the German Frank Wedekind, who deals with the awakening of sexuality in a group of young people. Olivier Arteau’s direction gives the classic new energy to adapt it to the zeitgeist. It features 10 artists, including Gabriel Lemire and Lé Aubin.
At the Denise Pelletier Theater from January 23rd to February 17th
Michelin
This first solo exhibition by Michel-Maxime Legault, graduate of the Quebec Conservatoire, is directed by Marie-Thérèse Fortin. In this first text, the actor discusses his family background and his life in the country. Co-produced by Trident, the Grand Théâtre de Québec, the Théâtre de la Marée Haute and the Théâtre du Tandem de Rouyn-Noranda, the show illustrates Olivier Arteau’s desire to decentralize creation across the province.
At the Trident Theater from April 9th to 17th, 2024
