Peter Gabriel twice
Peter Gabriel never does things like others. He decided to slowly reveal excerpts from his new album I/O, which is based on the lunar calendar; Since January 6th, a new song has been released every full moon. With this, the 73-year-old singer released nine tracks without giving any details about the album’s official release date, although it was promised this year. One thing we can be sure of, however, is that Gabriel will be on stage at the Bell Center with his loyal accomplices on September 13th to present the songs he has been cooking up for 21 years now. Of course, the former Genesis leader doesn’t play the nostalgia card by relying on his great successes; He will show on stage how much of his creative energy is still intact.

Wu-Tang Clan, Nas and De La Soul, at Place Bell
One evening in Laval, rap from the 1990s takes center stage. Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul and especially Nas are still active, but the NY State Out Mind Tour also celebrates the many past hits from these artists’ vast repertoire. It will also be an opportunity to honor the memory of David Jolicoeur, also known as Trugoy the Dove, who left us on February 12th, as well as the memory of Ol Dirty Bastard, who died almost 19 years ago.

Philippe Brach at MTelus
One of the best surprises of the year was certainly the unexpected release of a new album by Philippe Brach in the spring, Les gens qu’on amour. The feverish singer-songwriter, who hasn’t performed in four years, is embarking on a major tour of Quebec this fall that will last until at least June 2024 and will take him to MTelus in November. We are eagerly awaiting this reunion, which promises to be explosive. And after seeing him on a Francos outdoor stage late one night in June, we can guarantee that Brach is in good shape and voice and that his charisma is intact.

KaytrAminé at Piknic Électronik
Grammy-winning Montrealer Kaytranada and American singer Aminé have created an object of pure pleasure with their joint album released last May. The album inspires sunshine and celebration. Collaborators include Pharrell, Snoop Dogg and Amaarae. When performing, Kaytranada always knows how to create an entertaining, dance-filled and uplifting atmosphere. With this current album as material, we can look forward to a set that will end the summer in style.

Arctic Monkeys at the Bell Center
You have to have a bit of white hair (or almost) to remember Arctic Monkeys’ first Montreal gig in March 2006 at the defunct Spectrum: a powerful concert led by young, white-haired people who rocked like no one else had ever done it before them. Not quite 20 years later, Alex Turner has lost none of his verve – he is a fabulous storyteller – but he and his companions have grown in finesse and even size. On their records Tranquility Based Hotel+Casino (2018) and The Car (2022), Arctic Monkeys have developed from raw, almost brutal rock to an artistic form in which the grooves are intelligent and the orchestrations lush. It will be interesting to see how all of this can coexist with the beauties of the AM album and previous albums. Answer… this Saturday at the Bell Center!

Nick Cave at Place des Arts
Based on his numerous visits in recent years and his exhibition a year ago at the Maison des Festivals – an exclusive exhibition in North America – we can get an idea of the Australian’s love for our metropolis. A love shared by local fans who will have the chance to see it again at this “intimate” show at Place des Arts. No, his long-time friend and regular member of his band Bad Seeds – Warren Ellis – will not be at his side for this piano-guitar performance. But dry the tears: it is another great rock musician who will complete the duo and provide the rhythm guitar and bass: Colin Greenwood from the legendary group Radiohead. Cave and Greenwood on one stage, for one evening: No, we won’t miss it!

Black land, new road
British rock band Black Country, New Road almost ceased to exist when frontman Isaac Wood left to take care of his health. His subsequent tour was canceled. This decision came immediately after the release of the fantastic album Ants From Up There, which brought the band a glorious fate. Luckily, Black Country, New Road is still alive and will be showing in Montreal in mid-September. We can’t wait to see what the group will offer on stage in their current form.

Jinjer in Quebec and Montreal
Quebec metalheads will have finally waited almost four years to see Tatiana Shmayluk and her band again, whose schedule was disrupted first by the pandemic, but then by Russia’s invasion of their country, it’s still another year away. As cultural ambassadors for Ukraine, the four set out again and used their uninhibited metal as a weapon for mass perception. Jinjer comes to MTelus with a relentless, incredibly well-oiled machine, led by a vocalist who defies the laws of nature and backed by a “power trio” that would make any self-respecting musician drool with envy. Jinjer is on his way to joining the inner circle of metal royalty, this is the perfect opportunity to see the band up close.
