In the direction of the disappearance of certain products in supermarkets in the coming months? Dominique Schelcher, CEO of System U, sounds the alarm in an interview for the JDD this Sunday, October 23. “In a few weeks to a few months, the products you are used to may be missing from the shelves.”
A more serious situation than during the pandemic
“At Système U, we still haven’t returned to the usual rate of food supply before the health crisis,” he says. “At the end of last year, the first tensions in raw materials were felt, combined with a very strong economic recovery. (…) These tensions have led to an increase in the shortages of certain products.”
According to Dominique Schelcher, the most expensive products such as sausages or cheese, but also the least sold products will suffer production stops. “According to the agricultural cooperative, which represents a third of the brands, many producers will soon be forced to choose assortments because of excessive costs: farmers will decide, for example, to abandon poultry in favor of cereals,” explains the managing director.
“Even before the outbreak of war in Ukraine, signs of inflation were noticeable.”
