On February 24, very early in the morning, Vladimir Putin announced from the Kremlin the start of a military operation in the direction of neighboring Ukraine. Almost immediately, Russian tanks entered the two separatist republics of Donbass and Lugansk, but the Russian army also advanced west and the capital Kyiv. It is not a military operation that is starting, but a war in Ukraine. Bearing its share of destruction and death on both sides.
From the first hours of the conflict, journalists and technicians from Radio France were there to tell the story of the offensive, the first deaths, and civilians fleeing the fighting. Up to six teams anywhere in the country. Kyiv, Kharkov, Lvov, on the way to Odessa. Also in neighboring countries: Hungary, Poland, Romania, Moldova. And in Moscow, of course.
That’s all this podcast has to offer to tell you every night. A story about the daily war of our special correspondents and our correspondents, as well as the most important and powerful moments on the air of France Inter, franceinfo and France Culture. Every evening, Gregory Philips assesses the situation with a 10-minute podcast dedicated to understanding the war in Ukraine from the ground. What happened in the last 24 hours? What did our journalists and correspondents see and hear? How does the international community operate? An update on the situation with the facts, as well as the testimony and perspectives needed to understand the war day by day. The podcast can be found on the Radio France app.
