New Marvel star Dakota Johnson is one of our most reliable and charming celebrities, thanks to her refusal to ever apologize for her Hollywood “nepo-baby” status, her wry sense of humor, and her sweet straightforwardness. And now the actress has expertly continued her streak of jaw-dropping talk show appearances by opening up about her viral sleeping habits.
During an interview on The Tonight Show on Monday night, the Madame Web star addressed a recent viral uproar after she told the Wall Street Journal that she could “easily” sleep 14 hours a night. The discourse that followed was predictable: What a spoiled princess of the highest order; Normal people could never afford to sleep that long!
“What is the problem?” Host Jimmy Fallon asked her. “You like to sleep 14 hours a night?”
“I didn’t even say it like that,” Johnson protested. “I said I could easily sleep 14 hours, but I'm not asking for that. I'm not a monster. I have a job!”
“It sparked a whole debate,” Fallon noted. “Is that too much sleep? Is that enough? Who can do that?”
“Why is sleep bad?” Johnson countered. “Why? Leave me alone! I'm sleeping right now! I literally do nothing.”
However, she continued to boast about her epic sleep schedule, adding: “I don't even have to take anything to sleep. I think if I ever took an Ambien I would wake up next year.”
Last month, Johnson told the Journal in a profile titled “Dakota Johnson Likes to Sleep 14 Hours a Night” that she can't function during the day if she doesn't sleep at least 10 hours. “Sleep is my top priority in life,” she said at the time.
While various publications questioned whether that was too much sleep, others on social media accused Johnson of being out of touch. claim that her sleeping habits are a sign that she has “no real obligations in life.”
“I would sleep all day too if I had as much money as them, a cook, a maid and a gardener,” one user tweeted. “Must be nice to get six hours of sleep. I work three jobs just to get a good salary. I am exhausted. I’m glad she can rest for 15 hours a day.”
However, based on her comments to Fallon, it appears Johnson isn't losing any sleep over this silly discussion.
