“We are pleased and proud to announce that Damar Hamlin has been discharged from the hospital and returned to Buffalo. He is doing well and this is the next step in his recovery,” the team said in a statement.
Hamlin has been in the first quarter of the Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals at the Cincinnati University Hospital Center since last Monday night’s horrifying events.
Last Thursday, the Marauder regained consciousness without neurological consequences and the good news has continued to follow ever since. Doctors stopped the intubation on Friday morning.
“Damar had his first walk in hospital on Friday and he is on a path of recovery described as normal to accelerated. We remain thrilled with his recovery,” said Dr. William Knight IV and noted that he appeared to be ahead of the process compared to similar cases.
Lots of love
For his part, Damar Hamlin has yet to comment publicly, but he has continued to speak out through his Twitter account.
“I return to Buffalo today with a heart filled with love,” he wrote.
“Seeing the world united around me on Sunday was an incredible feeling. This love you showed me is the same I want to give back to the world and more. It’s bigger than football,” he continued, before thanking the medical staff who were tending to him.
“I am grateful for the fantastic care I received in Cincinnati. I’m glad to be back in Buffalo now. I already feel at home with the nurses and doctors at Buffalo General Hospital.”
happy times
For now, Damar Hamlin is continuing with his physical rehabilitation work and he is eating normally as doctors recommended.
He experienced strong emotions on Sunday as the Bills triumphed over the Patriots 35-23 in Buffalo. He was able to watch the game on TV with his parents at the Cincinnati Hospital.
“When the Bills scored a touchdown on kickoff return to open the game, he got out of his chair and started jumping. I think he cleared all the alarms in the ICU!” said Dr. Timothy Pritts out.
Below are the events
At the moment, the doctors who treated him believe it’s too early to say when Hamlin might return to normal life, but believe there’s no reason to believe he won’t be making progress.
Regarding the possibility that Hamlin could join his teammates in Buffalo for Bill’s fans to pay their respects, the medical team said the Buffalo medical staff will be in a better position to eventually provide that answer.
Hamlin continues to be monitored and evaluated at the Buffalo hospital, but under the circumstances it’s hard to imagine more encouraging news.
