Damontre Moore, a rookie with the Alouettes, wears number 99 and looks more like Warren Sapp than Wayne Gretzky.
Like the legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers player, 2002 Super Bowl champion, Moore also plays defense. Despite his powerful height (1.95 m and 117 kg), he is also capable of contributing in special teams and hopes to eventually play an important role on the field. Having just arrived in Montreal, he is part of the training squad and will not play in Saturday’s game against the Argonauts in Toronto. He did not make the journey like the other successors.

“I’m ready to fight against adversity,” the talkative 30-year-old athlete, originally from Texas, said after training earlier this week. “I want to shuffle the cards but I feel like in Las Vegas you never know what the cards will bring, you can win you can lose but at the end of the day I’m here to help the team, to earn something.” Of course, the competitor in me wants to play as soon as possible, but you have to think about what I can bring to the club sooner or later.
Moore’s experience, who spent nine years around the NFL, can be particularly useful off the field. The American also knows the Argos system well, having attended this training session last year.
Nice stay with the Seahawks
Regarding his NFL experience, Moore mentions that his best memories come from his second stint with the Seattle Seahawks in 2020.
“Everything that happened in Seattle represents great memories for me,” he said. I liked Coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks take care of their players and let them do their best.”
Moore recalls successfully tackling the Minnesota Vikings’ Ameer Abdullah on a punt return in a 27-26 win in October 2020. The sequence made headlines in the United States and went on to hit several spectacular game charts elsewhere.
“I’m pretty proud of this game,” Moore said with a smile. I have experience, but I continue to learn every day. The day I stop learning is the day I retire. I keep getting better with time.
Like in Texas?
Speaking about his arrival at the Alouettes, Moore says he was surprised by the heat in this Canadian city this week.
“I feel like I’m in Texas,” he revealed. I’ve never had the pleasure of coming to Montreal, but I’m happy to be here now.
Moore was apparently informed that the heat wave of the last few days of September was an exceptional situation for Montreal. Because here it is still the country of Wayne Gretzky!
