‘Same dance, different music’: Dancing On Ice viewers complain that John Fashanu’s skate-off routine was identical to his first performance
Dancing On Ice 2023’s John Fashanu became the first star in the line-up to be eliminated from the ITV series on Sunday night.
After the five celebrities performed in the second week, it was revealed that John would face Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu in the skate-off, with both pairs performing new routines.
However, many viewers at home complained that John’s skate-off routine was almost identical to his main skate.

They argued that he simply changed the music and kept all the steps in the second routine.
One said, ‘OH DO WE DO THE EXACT SAME ROUTINE, ARE WE JOHN?’
While another agreed, writing: “Same ‘dance’ different music for John”.
A third echoed: “Am I going crazy or is John’s skate off routine the same as his first skate?”

And a fourth wrote: “John better go he couldn’t even learn more than a routine for the skate off FFs”.
Elsewhere on the show Vivienne made history on the ITV show by becoming the first drag queen to perform.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race star and her pro partner Colin Grafton were thrilled as they scored 28.5 points out of 40 overall, with Ashley, Oti and Jayne scoring 7 while Chris gave 7.5.
Oti praised the premiere of The Vivienne: “If you want to make history, make history, congratulations!”

Impressed, Chris said: “A star was born on the ice tonight. Our very own diva on the ice, but you are by far our best skater.”
He then quoted Cher as saying, “We all invent ourselves, but some just have more imagination.”
The drag queen looked sensational in a black mesh catsuit with shimmering detailing on the front, while Colin wore a matching top and leather pants.
Many viewers took to Twitter to express their frustration with ITV at the amount of voting time allotted in weeks one and two – and found they didn’t even get a chance to get to the page before voting closed would.

Despite the glitz and glamor, it was a rough start to the series for Love Island fan favorite Ekin-Su, who landed in the last two by earning the fewest public votes.
The Love Island star recreated a memorable scene from the ITV2 reality show which saw her crawling on the floor, sparking over 100 Ofcom complaints from viewers who thought the routine was too racy for the family-friendly series.
Ahead of the skate-off, she said: “I’m not going to lie, I was really upset about what I did wrong, but I’m strong, I have to work hard and prove myself. ‘
With the five celebrities appearing in week two, it was time to find out who would be dancing in the bottom two again next week – and risking being sent home.

Staying in the bottom two spots, John and Alexandra faced Ekin-Su in the dreaded skate-off – with both pairs showing a whole new routine.
The show began with a performance by the pros and an introduction to the celebrities who would be skating in week 2.
Viewers were also treated to a breathtaking performance by legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
