Daniele International LLC Recalls Ready-To-Eat Sausages Due to Possible Listeria Contamination | Food Safety and Inspection Service – fsis.usda.gov

WASHINGTON, January 29, 2023 — Daniele International LLC, a Mapleville, RI subsidiary, is recalling approximately 52,914 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) sausage products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said today announced.

The RTE sausage products were manufactured on various dates from May 23, 2022 to November 25, 2022 and shipped to retail locations across the country on various dates from December 23, 2022 to January 17, 2023. The following products are subject to recall [view labels]:

  • 6 ounces. Plastic tray from “FREDERIK’S by meijer SPANISH STYLE Charcuterie Sampler Tray” with sale date 04/15/23.
  • 6 ounces. Plastic bowl of “Boar’s Head CHARCUTUERIE TRIO” with best before dates 04/13/23, 04/14/23 and 04/15/23.
  • 7 oz. Plastic bowl with “COLAMECO’S PRIMO NATURALE GENOA UNCURED SALAMI” with sale date 12/23/23.
  • 7 oz. Plastic tray with “COLAMECO’S PRIMO NATURALE BLACK PEPPER UNCURED SALAMI” with best before dates 12/22/23, 12/30/23 and 1/17/24.
  • 1 pound. Plastic tray with “DEL DUCA SOPRESSATA, COPPA & GENOA SALAMI” with best before dates 04/13/23 and 04/14/23.
  • 1 pound. Plastic tray with “DEL DUCA CALABRESE, PROSCIUTTO & COPPA” with date of sale 05/06/23.
  • 1 pound. Plastic tray with “DEL DUCA GENOA SALAMI, UNCURED PEPPERONI & HARD SALAMI” with expiry date 5/4/23.
  • 12 ounces. Plastic bowl from “Gourmet Selection SOPRESSATA, CAPOCOLLO, HARD SALAME” with sales date 04/14/23.

The products affected by the recall bear the company number “EST. 54 inches within USDA certification mark. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

FSIS discovered the issue during routine inspection activities that found Listeria monocytogenes on surfaces that the product came into contact with.

There are no confirmed reports of side effects from consuming these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should see a doctor.

Eating food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, those with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Rarely are people outside of these risk groups affected.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and cramps, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in the newborn. Also, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and those with compromised immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. People in the higher risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of eating contaminated food should see a doctor and tell the doctor about eating the contaminated food.

FSIS is concerned some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be discarded or returned to the point of sale.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness reviews to verify that recalling companies are notifying their recall actions Customers will be informed of the recall and that steps will be taken to ensure the product is no longer available to consumers.
