Darwin Nunez is a fitness doubt ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday night at Anfield.
The Uruguay striker had to be substituted in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 win against Newcastle United after landing heavily on his shoulder.
Nunez, who opened the gate at St James’ Park with an emphatic finish, will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the problem.
“The bad news is Darwin has something on his shoulder so we’ll have to see,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
“He had to leave with this problem and we need another evaluation. I don’t know (the extent) at this moment. At this moment it hurts. Hopefully it’s just painful and nothing more.”
On the significance of a win that put Liverpool to six points clear of fourth-placed Newcastle with a game in hand, Klopp added: “Massive, massive, massive but we’re not in a position where we’re going to have a big mouth and say can, we are here’.
“It’s obvious we’re in a better place than we were a few weeks ago, but we still have room for improvement and need to show consistency. Next game Real Madrid so we need to recover and try that.”
