Daryl Hall obtains a temporary restraining order against John Oates as part of a confidential lawsuit

(CNN) – Daryl Hall filed a lawsuit against his former bandmate John Oates in Nashville Chancery Court on Thursday, according to court documents.

The two musicians are known as members of the rock duo of the same name, Hall & Oates, which enjoyed enormous success in the early 1980s with hits such as “Private Eyes” and “Maneater”.

Hall’s lawsuit against Oates as an individual and the Oates Trust is listed as a “contract/debt” dispute, but the details of the case are sealed, court records show.

Last Friday, the court granted Hall’s request for a temporary restraining order that would take effect Nov. 30, records show.

Since most of the file is sealed, the nature of the injunction is not clear. Such an order is usually made in a commercial dispute to prevent one party from harming the economic interests of the other.

CNN has contacted representatives and attorneys for Hall and Oates for further information.

Hall and Oates met in Philadelphia in the 1960s and had 29 hits between 1976 and 1990, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Among his most indelible songs are the ethereal chorus of ‘I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)’, the piercing rhythm and harmonies of ‘Kiss on My List’, the weightless rhythmic flow and vocal interplay of ‘ Maneater’.” ; and the plaintive, heartbreaking chorus of ‘She’s Gone,'” Parke Puterbaugh wrote for the 2014 Hall & Oates Hall of Fame inductee.
