“Live from Daryl’s House,” the Webby Award-winning musical performance show co-hosted by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall, returns online after a five-year production hiatus. The long-running program will air on a dedicated YouTube channel starting Wednesday (November 1) with an episode featuring Squeeze singer/songwriter Glenn Tilbrook.
New episodes of “LFDH” released weekly, featuring Tilbrook, followed by Atlanta psychedelic jam band Blackberry Smoke, singer/guitarist Charlie Starr (November 8); King Crimson guitarist and Daryl Hall solo album producer Robert Fripp (pictured above with Hall, November 15); Singer/songwriter Andy Grammer (November 22nd), Lisa Loeb (November 29th) and British synthpop pioneer Howard Jones (December 6th).
The show is executive produced by Hall and his longtime manager Jonathan Wolfson for Good Cop Bad Cop Productions.
“Live from Daryl’s House” itself started on November 15, 2007 and a total of 90 episodes were filmed, including the last six.
“I came up with the idea of using the Internet for entertainment in a way that wasn’t available before,” Hall explains of the show he created on his own in this season’s premiere episode. “It’s hard to believe, but there was no such thing. So much has changed since then. I was kind of a pioneer.”
“I’m incredibly excited for the new season,” he continues. “I love all the guests we’ve booked and I think we’ve gone places musically we’ve never been before.”
Wolfson added: “Having been a part of this series alongside Daryl since its inception, I am proud of the number of incredible artists who have appeared in this very special music series. Our final season is a continuation of the high-quality programming that fans have come to expect.”
Following a deal with BMG to co-finance production, the final episodes of Live from Daryl’s House were filmed in 2018, with the last two airing in October 2020, starring Styx’s Tommy Shaw and Vintage Trouble singer Ty Taylor.
Out of 10,000 entries, it won a 2010 Webby Award for Best Variety Show and then an O Music Award from MTV.
The first few seasons featured an eclectic mix of legends and newcomers, from Chromeo, Fitz & the Tantrums, Minus the Bear, Aloe Black and KT Tunstall to Smokey Robinson, Ray Manzarek of the Doors, Robbie Krieger, Nick Lowe, Cheap Trick and Wyclef Jean, Aaron Neville, Billy Gibbons, Booker T. Jones and Kenny Loggins. A stint with fellow Philly soul member Todd Rundgren morphed into a tour that hits the Los Angeles Pantages Theater on November 6th. Every show since Hall opened his Daryl’s House restaurant and music club in Pawling, New York on Halloween 2014 has been filmed there.
Wolfson credits the show’s popularity with revitalizing Hall’s career over the last decade by introducing him to new artists and audiences he may not have previously reached.
