Dave Filoni, who oversaw Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian and Ahsoka and is the lord of all things in a galaxy far, far away, now has a new role at Lucasfilm: executive director of art . He continues to hold the title of Executive Vice President, which he received in 2020.

Filoni announced his title as chief creative officer in an interview with Vanity Fair on Tuesday. He’s already executive produced all of the live-action “Star Wars” shows on Disney+ and has been hired to direct a film that ties all the TV storylines together, but he’ll now be more involved in the future of “Star Wars.” .”

“In the past, I have been brought into many projects after seeing it after it was already doing well,” he said. “In this new role, you’re basically open to everything that’s going on. When we plan the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved in the early stages.”

“I don’t tell people what to do,” he added. “But I feel like I want to help them tell the best story they want to tell. I have to be a help here across the galaxy, almost like part of a Jedi Council.”

“Star Wars” is slowly planning a major return to the big screen. The franchise also has several other TV series in the works. Next up is “Skeleton Crew,” a coming-of-age story by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford; “The Acolyte,” a thriller directed by Leslye Headland and set in the distant past; and Season 2 of Tony Gilroy’s Andor. Films by James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy can be seen on the big screen. Filoni is also “exploring a possible second season” of Ahsoka, in which Rosario Dawson portrays the adult live-action version of Jedi Ahsoka Tano.

“To really help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand,” Filoni said. “I can also provide insight into the challenges that will come with telling these stories. I feel more capable of actually being helpful than just saying, ‘Well, Jedi are like this and Sith are like that…'”

Filoni has been associated with the Star Wars universe since directing the Clone Wars film in 2008 and has worked closely with creator George Lucas for years. Kathleen Kennedy will continue to serve as president of Lucasfilm and Carrie Beck will continue as head of development. Filoni “gets involved on a narrative level,” while Kennedy runs Lucasfilm and Beck brings in other filmmakers.

“I’ve literally spent hours telling ‘Star Wars’ stories,” Filoni said, before pausing to reconsider his syntax. “See…I even phrased it like Yoda.”
