So “FAA” and “Shapo” will instead give way to veteran Vasek Pospisil and youngsters Alexis Galarneau, Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl and Cleeve Harper in Valencia, Spain, where the Group B meetings will take place; in it the maple leaf meets Serbia, South Korea and the Spaniards.

The round robin, scheduled shortly after the conclusion of the US Open, will take place simultaneously in four cities, each of which will host a section. The top two countries in the classification of each division advance to the finals, which will be played from November 21-27 in Malaga, also on Hispanic soil.

“With a young team eager to prove themselves, we will face the best countries in the world at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals,” Frank Dancevic, captain of the Canada team, said in a press release. Although we are the underdogs in this group, particularly due to the experience of players from other teams, we have every intention of mixing the waters and doing everything we can to lead Canada to the final stages of the tournament.

Last April, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) awarded Canada (the sixth-ranked in the world) a bye as a substitute to the Davis Cup finals as it was the highest-ranked loser country at the time of the 2022 qualifiers.

Within the Canadian contingent, if Pospisil has 23 career appearances in the competition, Galarneau will be in his second appearance.
