Shah Rukh Khan broke his own record. His new release, Jawan, has overtaken Pathaan delivering the biggest opening ever for a Hindi language film. According to industry researcher Sacnilk, Jawan earned about Rs.75 crore on the first day, of which about Rs.65 crore was on the Hindi version and the remaining Rs.10 crore on the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions.

In doing so, Jawan has delivered the largest one-day collection for a Hindi film and is the first Hindi film to gross more than 60 crore rupees on opening day. Its release to coincide with the Janamashtmi undoubtedly provided a boost to collections, which are only expected to skyrocket over the weekend. Pathaan earned Rs 57 crore when it opened and set a new record earlier this year. But on the second day it earned 70 crore rupees and eventually finished its run at 543 crore rupees – a record that could soon be broken Gadar 2which currently stands at around Rs 510 Crore.
Sacnilk reported that the opening day load of Jawan was 58% across India, with the night shows reporting a 69% load and the morning shows a 54% load. These figures are for the Hindi version, which is also running in South Indian states. ‘Jawan’ has been conceived as Shah Rukh’s first pan-India release with the participation of director Atlee and actors Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. In fact, Chennai had the best occupancy rate of any city in the country at 81%. Mumbai reported 55% occupancy during the day while the NCR region was slightly higher at 60% occupancy. Hyderabad and Kolkata reported 75% and 73% occupancy respectively.

The Tamil language Jawan shows had a heavy nighttime occupancy rate of 70% while IMAX presentations reported an overall occupancy rate of 61%. The film was released in around 10,000 cinemas worldwide. Pinkvilla reports that Jawan is expected to generate at least Rs. 45 crore globally on day one, bringing total opening day sales to at least Rs. 130 crore, considering gross sales in India will be around Rs. 85 crore . Jawan recorded the best pre-sales of any Hindi film and is now the fourth-biggest opening film in the history of Indian cinema, behind RRR (223.5 million rupees), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (214.5 million rupees) and KGF: Chapter 2 ( Rs 164.5 crores).
