In recent days, community centers in the greater Montreal area have appealed to the generosity of the public to send supplies to the site.
Mission Accomplished: The Montreal Turkish Community Center fundraiser was successful as four planes carrying essential supplies were sent to the site.
The victims of the earthquakes in Syria can also count on the support of Syrians in Quebec, in particular volunteers from the Syrian Cathedral of Saint Ephrem in Laval.
Members of the Syrian community met by TVA Nouvelles said they were “proud” of the outpouring of generosity.
“I am proud to be able to contribute and I hope that our actions will help the people there,” said one man.
“It’s generosity to the max. I like it a lot,” added another lady.
“I think the government needs to come up with a law that can help them get in as soon as possible. They have no home and no means of subsistence,” recalls Father Elie Yachouh.
The Red Cross mobilized
The charity’s volunteers continue their efforts to raise funds for victims who are in dire need.
$19.1 million has been raised since the tragedy, in addition to $10 million in financial assistance from the federal government.
