Death in orphanage man accused of rape

Lena (10) was killed in early April at St. Josef orphanage in Wunsiedel. A 25-year-old man is now accused of rape.

Five months after the horrific death of the 10-year-old child in an orphanage in Wunsiedel, Bavaria, the investigation has concluded. An 11-year-old boy would be responsible for the girl’s death.

According to the police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a boy who also lived at the Wunsiedel orphanage is responsible for the girl’s death. During the argument, the 11-year-old boy allegedly strangled the girl. The boy allegedly attacked and beat other children in the house.

However, due to his young age, the 11-year-old boy is considered an adult. Therefore, no criminal proceedings await him and he has now been “taken into safe custody by the responsible authorities”.

Charges against 25-year-old man for rape

Charges were laid against a 25-year-old man in the case – he allegedly raped the 10-year-old girl shortly before her death. In early April he allegedly broke into the orphanage with the aim of committing robbery. He “accidentally” met the two children. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson, he had raped the girl in the presence of the boy and then abandoned the children’s home again. The man has been in custody since the end of April.

“It cannot be proven that the defendant was involved in the murder of the ten-year-old girl,” stated the police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. However, the 25-year-old admitted to the rape. After the man left the house, the 11-year-old boy allegedly killed the girl.

In addition to the attack on the dead girl, the man admitted to other crimes: since the beginning of 2022, he has stolen construction equipment worth 16 thousand euros in five container robberies and then sold it online.

Open complaint against caregiver

According to the police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, investigations are continuing into possible breaches of duties by the authorities responsible for the care of children. It is not yet clear whether there will also be criminal consequences against the orphanage’s caregivers.
