Death of Christine McVie: Will Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumors’ Return to the Top 10? – music times

Christine McVie’s legacy evidently lives on despite her untimely death, as Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album Rumors is set to make a comeback to the top 10 of the charts.

The landmark LP reportedly rose 15 spots according to the Official Charts Company and was up 200% compared to the same period last week.

This comes after the recent news of the death of McVie, who died on November 30 at the age of 79 after a “brief illness”.

The statement announcing her death read: “We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time and we want everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being and revered musician remember that it was loved by all.”

True to the statement, McVie’s music really was loved everywhere. Fans took to the streaming platforms to remember the singer-songwriter’s greatest works like ‘Everywhere’, ‘Little Lies’, ‘Songbord’ and more.

Additionally, Billboard released its annual year-end charts, which included the top rock albums of 2022, and “Rumors” topped the list.

Other albums in the list: Queen’s Greatest Hits, Elton John’s Diamonds, followed by Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle: The Greatest Hits.

In sixth place is Nirvana’s “Nevermind,” then “Greatest Hits” by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, “Greatest Hits” by Guns N’ Roses, and “Back in Black” by AC/DC.

‘rumors’

Fleetwood Mac released “Rumors” in February 1977 and was mainly inspired by the heartbreak the members were nursing.

It was the rock band’s first #1 album on both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, making it one of their best-known albums.

In addition to commercial success, Rumors also enjoyed critical acclaim, winning Album of the Year at the 1977 Grammy Awards.

The album is divided into two pages. Side one includes “Second Hand News”, “Dreams”, “Never Going Back Again”, “Don’t Stop”, “Go Your Own Way” and “Songbird”.

Side two includes “The Chain”, “You Make Loving Fun”, “Don’t Want to Know”, “Oh Daddy” and “Gold Dust Woman”.

Fleetwood Mac’s eleventh studio album not only propelled them higher up the charts and up the map, but continued to be one of the greatest albums in music history, according to Rolling Stone.

Metacritic gave it a 99 out of 100, AllMusic, The Independent, Rolling Stone, Uncut and Blender all gave the album five stars out of five, while Pitchfork gave it a perfect score of 10.
