Clues, witness statements, meetings with witnesses… The police investigation into the death of Eduardo Malpica leaves many perplexed. A year later, many people are still looking for answers.
This is the case of his wife and the Trois-Rivières Solidarity Committee, which today makes an appeal to everyone: a petition to demand a public inquiry.
“Some of us believe there is reason to hold a public inquiry to make it clear that the police response in a situation of enforced disappearances like this may not be up to scratch,” said the committee’s director general, Valérie Delage.
The petition was posted online on Friday and by the end of the afternoon more than a hundred people had signed it. The letter to be sent should be addressed directly to the Chief Coroner.
“We’re talking about an issue of social issues in terms of safety in bars and the level of trust we have in the police… It’s an investigation that I think was botched and there was no big one Interest.” “On your part, to solve the mystery, because it is a mystery what happened to Eduardo,” explained his wife Chloé Dugas.
It is rare that the coroner has approved such a request, but nothing is impossible.
“As far as I know, this has been done very rarely, so I think the chances are slim in normal protocol. On the other hand, it should move forward,” says the founder of Unsolved Murders and Disappearances Quebec, Stéphane Luce.
The family and loved ones of Eduardo Malpica believe that the police threw in the towel too quickly and that the statement of the person who claimed to have seen her the day after her disappearance was not the only lead to follow.
The petition will remain open for a few more weeks.
The investigation is one of the last hopes of those close to Eduardo Malpica to understand the circumstances of his death.
