The 13-year-old girl was placed in a youth facility. Her mother and ex-boyfriend again accused her of also hitting her nine-year-old brother, who was found dead in Belgium in April.
His role in the death of his little brother is the subject of extensive investigation. In the investigation into the death of 9-year-old Raul, whose body was discovered in a sports bag on April 13 in Ghent, Belgium, the victim’s 13-year-old sister is suspected of taking part in violent crimes.
According to the Belga news agency, after being interrogated again by the court, the girl was placed in a facility for minors. In fact, since her arrest, the mother and her ex-boyfriend have repeatedly stated that she was also involved in Raul’s death in January.
At a hearing, the woman clarified that her daughter had hit her 9-year-old son in the head with a thermos in the past. According to him, however, this blow would not have been fatal to him.
Died after being abused by his parents
It was relatives, concerned that they had not heard from the little boy for several months, who alerted the Belgian authorities to his disappearance. The mother finally said to her son’s uncle in a phone call: “Don’t ask any more questions about Raul, he’s dead.”
The investigators therefore finally arrested the child’s mother and her ex-companion. It is the testimony of Raul’s sister that will allow them to confirm their suspicions about the two adults’ involvement in the little boy’s disappearance.
The young girl told investigators that in January Raul was severely beaten and scalded by the couple with a belt and punches.
The body was found three months later
The child’s body was only found three months after his disappearance in a gym bag weighted with stones that had been thrown into the water. The condition of the remains did not allow the autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
The two adults are suspected of manslaughter, assault and subsequent disposal of the body. With regard to the involvement of the little sister, investigations are underway in Ghent to determine whether the suspects’ statements about her are correct.
