“The first words he said was to apologize and the last words he said was to apologize to the family,” Me Laurent-Franck Liénard said on BFMTV, a French television channel.
“My client was extremely shocked by the violence in this video […] he saw for the first time while he was in police custody,” the council assured, also referring to the images in which he fired the shot that resulted in the death of the 17-year-old young man Nahel, who refused to give the request to obey.
“He’s devastated, he doesn’t get up in the morning to kill people.” He didn’t mean to kill,” he added.
The officer was charged with first degree murder and remanded in custody on Thursday.
Me Liénard announced that he would appeal against the detention on Friday morning.
