Death of Olivia Newton John: John Travolta pays tribute to his Grease partner

Olivia Newton-John, the unforgettable Sandy in the cult musical Grease, died on August 8 at the age of 73. Many talents, including his co-star John Travolta, pay tribute to him.

The unforgettable Sandy of Grease has left us…Olivia Newton-John, also a British citizen, died on August 8th at her ranch in Southern California at the age of 73. The star was finally struck by cancer after a struggle of more than thirty years.

In 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which led to a mastectomy, followed by two recurrences in 2013 and 2017. She had also dedicated much of her energy and fame to the fight against this disease through her foundation, Olivia Newton -John Foundation Fund.

John Travolta shared the poster for the cult musical with him and shared a beautiful tribute by posting a message on his Instagram account. “My dear Olivia, you have made our lives better. Your influence has been incredible. I love you so much. We’ll see you on the streets again and we’ll all be together again forever!” he writes.

Randal Kleiser, the film’s director, “is heartbroken. She was unique and so kind. For over four decades of our friendship, she sent nothing but love to everyone she cared about. Olivia was everything you imagined her to be. I will miss her forever.”

The Academy of Oscars also wanted to pay tribute to the actress, rightly highlighting the great success of the film, the biggest of 1978, which was cited for the Oscar for Best Song.

Pain also shared director James Gunn, who remembers the actress as his first crush at the cinema, discovering her in Grease as a child, and recalling having bought the house that was once the actress’s home in the past Malibu.

Edgar Wright recalls how much the actress made a musical mark thanks to the film. “When I was a kid, she dominated the charts so much that I felt like she was the epitome of pop music.” The Grease album was indeed a worldwide bestseller, selling more than 28 million copies worldwide and played a major role in making Grease a cultural phenomenon.

Among the other reactions to his death, we mention that of Antonio Banderas and Mia Farrow, as well as that of actress Viola Davis, who sadly remembers that part of his childhood has passed.
