An ARD team was threatened by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, the office of the French news agency AFP in Gaza was seriously damaged by a bullet and radio presenter Juan Jumalon was shot dead during a broadcast in the Philippines. These are just the events of the last few days in which journalists have been victims. Reporters, especially in crisis areas like Ukraine or the Middle East, live increasingly dangerous lives. According to the organization Reporters Without Borders, last year alone 57 journalists were killed around the world, 65 were kidnapped, 49 disappeared without a trace and 533 were imprisoned – more than ever before. Women, whose proportion in journalism is increasing, are not exempt from this trend. The number of reporters killed in connection with their work tripled between 2020 and 2022.
