Death toll in China's Qinghai province due to earthquake rises to 22

XINING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) — The 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck northwest China at midnight on Monday killed 22 people in Qinghai Province, according to local authorities.

According to the provincial disaster management department, 198 people were injured and another 12 remained missing in the disaster in Qinghai at 8:56 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the China Earthquake Network Center, the earthquake occurred at 11:59 p.m. on Monday with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter occurred in Liugou city, about 8 kilometers from the headquarters of the Jishishan Bonan-Dongxiang Salar Autonomous Prefecture in neighboring Gansu province.

As of Wednesday morning, a total of 113 deaths from the earthquake had been confirmed in Gansu.
