Caracas, April 27.- The delegates of the XVII. Congress of the International Democratic Federation of Women (FDIM) discussed action plans to fight for peace and gender equality in the world.
The Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Diva Guzmán, reported that this Wednesday’s event was simultaneously connected to 24 states of the country to promote the participation of Venezuelan women in the international organization’s major event.
“We were able to participate, we listened to the debates, the proposals, on issues related to the role of women in the pandemic, for example on inequality, on health issues, from LGBTI groups, which were discussed in full swing,” emphasized the minister. .
Guzmán stressed that this event represents a great step forward for Venezuela, as progress has been made in education and knowledge sharing between all stakeholders, and also stressed the leading role in the fight for gender equality.
She recalled that there are countries that do not have laws against violence, for which women go through difficult processes, without the accompaniment and support of the state, but in this nation President Hugo Chávez opened the doors, created conditions for women to enter Venezuelan society included were strengthened and was the protagonist of the process.
Social and reproductive rights, equal pay and the consequences of wars are some of the topics that will be discussed during the meeting, which will be held until April 30th at the Hotel Meliá Caracas in this capital.
The Congress also aims to strengthen the fight for women’s rights, from equal pay to abortion rights, education, health, gender-based violence, but above all the fight against imperialism and its coercive measures against nations. (LP)
