In 2022, Decathlon had surprised its world, and in particular that of cycling, with a concept. Yes, a concept bike or concept bike is very rare, and the French brand envisioned the bike of our short-term future. In 2023, Decathlon relaunches the Magic Bike 2.0 and a new idea.
The future Decathlon urban bike in filigree?
Here Decathlon has put its Btwin concept on a modern but rather classic city bike. At least visually, because today it is no longer in the range. With an open, rigid frame and a slim hanger without a screen (the display runs via an application), this machine differs from the new LD 920 E, more typical VTC. However, it appears to resemble a production bike more than the first-gen concept. Could this be a preview of the future urban UAE?

In any case, it integrates its battery into the frame, while the central motor flanks a strange “Natural Adaptivity” on the bottom bracket and chaincase. This “natural adaptability” could come from the LD 920 E’s automatic transmission block, developed with Belgian company E2 Drives. The only thing that is certain is that a “Magic Mode” usable by app adapts the management of the autonomy to the course and its heights, a bit like an Iweech. The designers also incorporated a braking energy recovery system that would increase autonomy “up to 30%”.

A complete Decathlon trekking bike
Surprisingly with no front suspension or saddle, this VAE has a wide front fork that, with the big Pirelli Cinturato tires, is good at absorbing vibrations and road bumps. Surprise yes, because the Decathlon Magic Bike 2.0 is intended for trekking and especially for family outings. It has generous fenders, the front one of which integrates the lighting, comfortable rear and front luggage racks and a trailer. Because the goal is to turn the bike into a family bike without having to buy a cargo bike.

The latter serves to make this electric bike as a family and as an “invitation to travel”. The trailer features an attachment to the bike frame, with a “cocoon” metal structure but open with pockets, a side space for large items, a possible plastic roof and of course a honeycomb child seat. The tires are Schwalbe Big Bonkers with brown sidewalls that mimic the UAE’s Pirelli. With the Decathlon Magic Bike 2.0, the trailer is practical and serves as a rear luggage rack or to attach a small bike for toddlers.

In the spirit of travel and long-distance (hence the LD of some B’Twins), the concept features an extra battery. The first integrated has a connector visible by sliding open a plastic cover, to which the second can be additionally fixed with a strap to ensure an additional range of 50 km.
When will this future Decathlon escape electric bike be available?
This concept bike is not for sale but promises big things for the future of the Decathlon Btwin range. The half urban, half trekking bike, like the accessories presented here, could quickly find its place in the catalogue. However, the brand is currently not communicating about a date and even less about the price.
