Deer jumps into community pool in Ontario

A deer entered a recreation center in the town of LaSalle, Ont., on Sunday before interrupting a swimming session by jumping into the pool.

A video posted on social media shows a panicked deer being chased by a Vollmer Cultural and Leisure Complex employee before jumping into the pool.

According to the town of LaSalle, the animal entered the facility through a window around 2:45 p.m. and threw itself into the water while trying to find a way out of the building.

“Lifeguards and service staff quickly intervened to evacuate swimmers from the pool and customers from the terrace to the lobby. Swimming lessons were in progress and there were approximately thirty customers at the time,” the city wrote in a news release.

The employees finally managed to get the deer out. He “may have been injured because small amounts of blood were found,” the municipality added, explaining that maintenance of the swimming pool had begun, in particular to clean the broken glass in the pool and disinfect the premises.

No employees or citizens were injured.
